  1) Tips for selecting the best photo to create a painted portrait...
We can paint from any photo you submit. However, if the portrait you wish to create features people, we recommend choosing a photo that's close up, in focus and has lots of smiles. This will produce the best artistic result. Photos that are dark or out of focus are harder to deal with. We
can do our best work when our artists can see the details in your photo clearly.

  2) Digital Photos: What's the best image format, resolution, and image size ?
For standard photo portraits on canvas we recommend Photographers send us a digital file with dimensions set to the final output size and resolution at 150dpi. Save this image as a .jpeg with highest quality compression. You might think a larger size digital file will create a better reproduction - but with modern Giclee printing on Canvas you won't see a difference over 150dpi. We recommend you open Photoshop and copy your digital photo to one of our canvas templates before sending so you can see just exactly what portion of the image will appear on the face and sides of the canvas. If you don't have time to do this or don't know how....its ok. We'll take care of it for you at no charge and let you know promptly if we run into any problems. After your reseller account is set up you'll be uploading digital files through our web based ordering system which is accessible through the Pro Login tab.

For painted portraits you can send any size .jpeg image between .25mb to 5mb. Of course the larger the better. We can work with smaller files when creating a painting because our Artists make an altogether new artwork which is scalable up to almost any size.

Scanning Tips:  If you are scanning a client's traditional photo into your computer scan the photo in RGB color with output resolution set to 300dpi. Next save the image in .jpeg format with the highest quality compression.

  3) Can I send you a client's traditional photo print for conversion into a painting ?
Yes you can. Many professional photographers get requests to reproduce a favorite family photo or even an old or damaged photo into a painting. We can work with these photos and we also accept film negatives or slides. The original source photo will be returned with the finished canvas. Please don't send us an irreplaceable photo though without first making a copy of it. If you don't have a scanner in your studio visit any quick photo lab, Kinko's, Office Depot, Office Max or Staples.

  4) How can I set up an account and place an order ?
Professional photographers must first set up a pro account. Call us at our studio or click on the Pro Login/Setup tab above to get started. Afterwards, you'll be able to place orders by clicking on the Pro Login tab and access our web based ordering system with digital file upload.

  5) Do you have a 'Sample' program to help new photographers get started ?
Yes we do. If you're a new photographer or an established one who just wants to try our service - we have several introductory offers. Give us a call at (702) 309-3800 to set up your Pro account and learn more.

  6) Are these artworks created with actual paint ?
We don't use a traditional paintbrush and paint. Our work is digital and performed manually in a computer by skilled artists using a stylus and electronic tablet along with specially designed software. However our process is not computer-automated. We don't just press a button or apply a filter to create the appearance of random brush strokes such as other studios offer. Our work is done by hand using a palette of over 16 million colors. We use modern digital tools to 'dab' and paint in the same rich tradition as Picasso, Matisse or Rembrandt. It truly is a wonder.

  7) No charges for color correction or image stretching for Gallery Wrap
These are free services from Canvas Art Studio. Because we're a group of professional digital Artists we notice incoming files could sometimes benefit from a slight enhancement in color correction or contrast adjustment. We examine a Histogram of each image in PhotoShop prior to printing to indicate the need for any adjustment. We also commonly receive files with a request to "stretch the image" over the side of the Gallery Wrap but the Photographer has not left enough space around the salient part of the image to do this. When this happens - we just take care of it. We'll make it look good without putting a 'head' or an 'arm' over the side of the canvas. And we'll do this for no added cost.

  8) Can you work with pictures that are old or torn or damaged ?
Yes. We often get requests to create a painting based an old or damaged photo. The portrait might take us a little longer to complete but there is no extra charge.

  9) May I see the painting prior to shipment ? How can I be sure the client will like it?
Many photographers take advantage of our $10 Preview service. For a $10 fee we will actually create the finished painting and show you or the client a proof online in our web based "Preview Center". Neither the photographer or the client has any obligation to buy the portrait at this point. You can view the portrait, request changes and make the final purchase decision afterwards. We may charge a little extra for art revisions after the first draft but there is no further charge at all unless you're completely happy. That's our promise. The $10 fee does not apply towards the final purchase.

Using creative web based technology you can now work remotely with a professional Artist to create exactly what you want. To see an actual client sample....click here

10) Can a color photo or painting be made out of a Black & White source photo or vice versa ?
Yes. We can colorize black & white photos AND convert color photos into black & white. We can also create a color painted artwork from a black & white photo. The first step is to Colorize the black & white photo. An added charge of $39.95 applies for this service. We then create a painted artwork based on the colorized photo. When ordering this service we'll need details regarding the subject's natural color for Eyes, Hair & Skin. Be sure to include this information in the 'comments' section of the order form. Black & White paintings can also be made from color photos. See our Gallery for samples.

11) Can you take people from different photos and combine them into a single painted portrait ?
Yes. This will take a bit of extra work on our part to recompose the final scene. This service is called "Photo Compositing" and you can order it for an added cost of $39.95. Just tell us your preference for desired positioning of all the subjects in the special comments section of the project order form. See our customer showcase Gallery for examples of this process.

12) Can you remove something or someone from a source photo ?
Yes, and in most cases there is no extra charge. If request becomes too elaborate we'll let you know. In that case there might be small charge for photo retouching.

13) What happens if my photo image won't fit proportionately on the Canvas size I want ?
Sometimes a photographer will shoot in 2:3 pro format and then request a portrait size which has a different aspect ratio. In these cases the image may not fit proportionately on the finished canvas without making adjustments. If this happens we'll call to consult with you on the issue and send you a proof , if necessary, to show you what the finished result will look like in advance.

14) Can I have the finished Canvas delivered directly to my client ?
Yes you can. Just enter an alternate name and address in our web based ordering system. In this case let us know so we can omit your merchant payment receipt.

15) Is it possible to make a custom sized Photo Portrait or Painting on canvas ?
Yes it is. You will need to contact us by email or telephone to discuss. There might be framing considerations or shipping cost issues to discuss.

16) Can my Canvas Artwork be round or oval ?
We're sorry but we currently do not offer this.

17) What is the standard Delivery Time ?
We usually ship all Canvas Photo Portrait orders within 24 hours.

For Painted Preview Orders: we will usually show an artwork proof of the painting in our web based Preview Center within 3 business days after we receive the source photo. After you approve and order the artwork the finished canvas is shipped via Fed-Ex Ground within 24 hours. Transit time is 2-7 days and depends on your distance from our Art studio located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rush services are also available.

Orders for Painted portraits submitted without the Preview option are usually produced and shipped within 3-5 days after receipt of photo and order details. Note: Project lead times at Christmas and Mother's Day can sometimes be longer.

18) Can you ship a Canvas Artwork to another Country ?
We can. We recommend a "Rolled Canvas" in a mailing tube for international destinations. This will reduce the cost of shipping and customs duty. Contact us at sales@CanvasArtStudio.com and let us know where you'd like the canvas shipped. We'll advise you of the costs involved.

19)  Do you have templates that will help me format my files for a Canvas gallery wrap ?
Yes we do. Click here to see our full inventory of templates designed for both a 5/8" and 1-1/2" deep canvas. Copy your files on to one of these templates in photoshop and you'll see exactly what part of the image will appear on the face and sides of the canvas.
